Dr. Wanjiru Kariuki is currently the Secretary for Skills Development at the State Department for Labour and Skills Development. Prior to this, she served as: Education Secretary at the State Department for Post Training and Skills Development; Gender Secretary at the State Department for Gender Affairs; and Director/CEO of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI). She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has also undertaken a fellowship in Management Science at Chongqing University, China. In addition, she has a Master of Educational Administration and Planning degree, and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Nairobi
